Ms. Classic Beauty 2009

Kristina
Rowe
My name is Kristina Rowe, Ms. Classic
Beauty. I currently live in Carrollton, Texas and work in Lewisville at
Parago, Inc. I am the Content Manager for online tools used by the Operations
Department at Parago, Inc. I have worked at Parago for over eight years and
currently serve as the leader of Parago CARES, our support team for charitable
and community efforts.
I enjoy my work, and plan to continue
learning about web-based tools that support professional and personal
development. I am currently working on a book that suggests some unique
approaches to personal problem solving. My web site, www.newgratitude.com,
serves as my blog and as a link to the charitable organizations I support.
My platform can be summed up
briefly. I'm standing beside those living with cancer, and speaking out
for a future without it. My mother recently passed away after a nine year
battle with breast cancer, and after having lost one of her younger sisters to
cancer only two years prior. People whose loved ones have cancer are
often called co-survivors, and during my time as a co-survivor, I learned a lot
about cancer. I have been a long-time supporter of the Susan G Komen
foundation and will continue to personally support this fine organization. My
mother asked my family to support organizations that fight all cancers and not
just breast cancer, so I also proudly support the American Cancer Society and
its sister advocacy organization, the ACS Cancer Action Network.
As of 2004, over 10 million Americans
were living with cancer. It is essential that we offer them access to treatment
regardless of their ability to pay, community support for their health and
personal concerns, and above all, hope for a cure. I strongly believe that
legislative advocacy and community activism are essential tools for accomplishing
these goals.
Cancer is invading the lives of too many
Americans, and taking those lives at an alarming rate. We must continue
all efforts to find cures for all cancers, and until then, we must step up our
efforts to educate the public on preventive measures. We should stop at
nothing to ensure that all Americans have access to the most widely accepted
early detection tests. Finally, we must learn how to raise healthy children
whose odds of developing cancer are drastically lower than our own.
In the coming months, I will be
appearing at or partiipating in a number of local Relay for Life events.
I'll also be promoting legislative advocacy and looking to join community
efforts to support cancer survivors and their families.
