Mrs. Alabama
2007-2008
Sandy Freeman
Sandy Freeman
is a 5’ 3¾ ” green-eyed 38 year-old brunette who comes from a long line of
full-figured women on her mother’s side and a long line of small boned women on
her father’s side. Being caught in the middle can present some interesting
challenges to find clothing that fits comfortably and attractively.
Her favorite
activities include singing, cooking, gardening, swimming, and enjoying her
grandsons and her animals. She lives in
the country on the water with her husband of 8 years, Clent, from whom she
acquired two-stepsons, and their menagerie of animal “children”. They have
seven dogs including an 8 year old Boston terrier, a cat that’s 9 years old and
an aquarium full of fish. Their grandchildren live close and are a constant joy
in their lives.
In addition to
her job, business and family,
Sandy also
competed as Mrs. Lauderdale County United States in the Alabama United States
pageant in 2005 winning the audience’s “People’s Choice” award, even with only
three people in the audience. This was her first foray back into the pageant
world since 1986 when she competed in the “Fairest of the Fair” pageant (a Miss
America preliminary) and the Miss USA pageant at the age of 18. She had
competed in children’s pageants in high school winning first-runner up to Miss
Northwest Alabama Lovely Lady at age 15 and winning several awards in
Tri-County Dream Angel pageant including Miss Tri-County Dream Angel, Miss
Congeniality and Talent winner. Since getting back into pageants in the Mrs.
arena in 2005,
Her platform
encompasses a project especially close to her heart, Shriner’s Hospitals for
Children. These are 22 orthopedic and burn hospitals in three countries
dedicated to children under 18 years of age with birth defects, orthopedic
injuries or severe burns who require special treatment. These hospitals are
funded completely by donations, grants, endowments and the fund-raising done by
the members of Shriner’s International, like her husband, and individuals such
as herself. Her hope is to bring more attention to their work and help to bring
them into the forefront of recognition and increase donations to help them
continue the very special work that they do for children regardless of their
parents’ ability to pay. It is toward this end that she dedicates her year as
Mrs. Alabama Classic Beauty 2007 and hopes to continue that work as the
national Mrs. Classic Beauty 2008.
